Georgetown First UMC holds Back to School Bash
posted on August 15

On Saturday, August 5, 256 needy kids received new backpacks, sneakers, socks and school supplies at the "Back to School Bash" at Georgetown First United Methodist Church. The church hosted and coordinated this community outreach for the third consecutive year. Eighty persons volunteered from several area churches; fifty of them were from Georgetown First.
Additionally, the kids heard about God's love for them in Jesus, received Scott County Sheriff Department ID cards, eye screenings, and free haircuts, and had lots of fun. They feasted on pizza for lunch and Culver's ice cream for dessert. About half of the families are Spanish-speaking, so interpreters were available to assist in communicating with parents. The children’s names are supplied to the church by the family resource centers in the public schools.
